Cataphoresis Coating Lines
CATAPHORESIS COATING
In cataphoretic coating, the material is immersed in a paint bath. An electric current is passed through this bath and a micron-level coating is formed on the surface. It is a coating method that works according to the principles of electrochemistry, is environmentally friendly, economical and provides excellent corrosion protection..
The part is connected to the circuit as a cathode, which is why it is called a cataphoretic coating. It is also called cataphoretic electroplating or cathodic electroplating (CED).
Катафорезное покрытие наносится на металлическую поверхность в качестве первого слоя ( грунтовки ) в автомобильной промышленности. The cataphoresis process is defined as a global benchmark due to its resistance to harsh environments where corrosion resistance must be maximized and its maximum performance to the end user. Cataphoresis coating can cover very complex parts. it has found application not only in the automotive industry but in many other industries
Advantages of cataphoretic coating:
- Light coverage of complex parts;
- High hardness of the coating;
- Providing surface protection for various materials such as steel, aluminium, magnesium;
- At least 1000 hours of corrosion resistance in a salt spray chamber;
- Gives the chance to increase term of protection against corrosion for 6-12 years;
- Ensuring high protection of the edges and corners of the material;
- Ensuring the same coating thickness on all parts of the material;
- Possibility to hide surface irregularities of the material;
- Wide drying range for consistent quality;
- Maximum mechanization and automation of the process;
- High performance and speed;
- Profitability;
- Provides less environmental pollution, as water-based;
- It can be marked as having the highest level of corrosion resistance (compared to powder coatings).
Disadvantages of cataphoretic coating:
- Production of the coating line and its maintenance is uneconomical;
- Collapse of the paint/coating is inevitable in situations such as power outages. In such cases, it is very expensive to renew the material and clean the system;
- Generally, this is a suitable method for mass production. Frequent color changes are impractical. Wrong method for creating an individual color for one or two parts;
- Epoxy electrocoatings are very sensitive to sunlight. UV radiation can damage the coating, causing it to deteriorate.
Cataphoresis Coating Process:
A ) Surface preparation process
B ) Electro-plating process
C ) Curing process
